Staff Accountant (The McNair Group) - Houston Texans (Houston, TX)

The Houston Texans want to make you aware of an opening for a Staff Accountant with The McNair Group, an affiliate of the Houston Texans. The McNair Group refers to a group of legal entities with common ownership principally involved with public and private equity investment portfolios, independent power generation and charitable foundations.

Job Title:  Staff Accountant

Department:  Accounting

Reports to:  Director of Accounting

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting from a four year accredited college or university required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years related experience in accounting/finance environment required.

Skills Required:

  • Proficiency in use of all Microsoft Office software applications.
  • Report writing in both Excel and FRx.  Experience with SQL a plus.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Great Plains, Quickbooks and Laserfiche software.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks with multiple priorities with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Capability of functioning proficiently in numbers environment.
  • Ability to maintain attention to detail and work effectively under pressure and within deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain confidential and/or proprietary information.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to create and maintain solid working relationships across the organization.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Basic Function:

  • Contribute to maintaining the integrity of the general ledger including account reconciliations and recording journal entries.
  • Perform special project analyses as required and assist the accounting manager in developing and producing various financial reports.

Job Function (duties and responsibilities):

  • Conduct monthly general ledger account reconciliations.
  • Assist in monthly close process including recording journal entries and analyses as required for financial reporting.
  • Process capital expenditures and reconcile the fixed asset module.
  • Process entries for cash management module.
  • Contribute to the budgeting and forecasting process.
  • Perform back-up job duties of general accountant including accounts payable, accounts receivable and purchase card processing as necessary.
  • Scan and file documents as needed in Laserfiche including Fund report retrieval and filing.
  • Perform various other tasks as may be assigned from time to time by other members of the department staff.
  • Position requires face-to-face personal interaction with staff, peers and other McNair Group (“TMG”) personnel; therefore, job responsibilities must be physically performed in TMG offices and not in a telecommuting manner.

Title: Tax Accountant

FLSA Status: Exempt

Department: Tax

Reports to: Vice President, Tax

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university required.
  • Master’s degree in Accounting preferred.
  • Minimum of one year related experience in tax accounting is required.
  • Certified Professional Accountant (“CPA”) license required.

Skills Required:

  • Experience with tax preparation software such as GoSystem required.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and problem-solving.
  • Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office software applications.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to create and maintain solid working relationships across the organization.
  • Excellent attention to detail and an ability to produce high-quality, accurate work within designated deadlines.

Basic Function:

Responsible for various duties within the Tax department, including the preparation of federal and state tax returns, preparation of the work papers supporting the returns, researching tax issues that arise and being informed of federal and state tax law changes as they pertain to The McNair Group ("TMG") entities.

Job Function (duties and responsibilities):

  • Assist with preparing 55+ federal tax returns including partnership, S-corporation, not-for-profit, individual and trust returns, 150+ state tax returns, numerous Texas margin tax returns and all related items filed annually in addition to returns such as tax estimates, extensions and various state filing fees.
  • In connection with tax returns, prepare work papers supporting the conversion of financial records to tax basis records generally required for all entities.
  • Assist maintaining and monitoring a due date list for all tax filings and various other deadlines.
  • Provide tax information, including tax estimates as well as Schedule K-1s, to external partners in several partnerships.
  • Utilize GoSystem tax return software and Great Plains accounting software in completion of routine duties.
  • Prepare for outside consultants detailed asset schedules and information necessary to prepare personal property tax renditions for various entities.
  • Calculate tax depreciation on fixed assets for various entities.
  • Research various tax issues as they arise throughout the year and stay abreast of current Federal and state tax law changes as they pertain to TMG entities.
  • Interact with financial accounting, foundation and investment group personnel.
  • Perform various other or additional duties that may be assigned from time to time by the Vice President, Tax.
  • Position requires routine face-to-face personal interaction with other TMG personnel; therefore, job responsibilities must be physically performed in TMG offices and not in a telecommuting manner.
